IntAct December update

This December, we highlight a comprehensive interactome study that focuses on the protein-tyrosine kinases and phosphatases in the model bacterium Bacillus subtilis. The work was carried out by the groups of Marie-Francoise Noirot-Gros and Ivan Mijakovic. The data were submitted directly to IntAct as part of the publication process, and can be searched using IMEx IDs IM-23251 or IM-22270 on the IntAct website and the IMEx Consortium pages.

Two related papers produced by these groups, “Protein-tyrosine phosphorylation interaction network in Bacillus subtilis reveals new substrates, kinase activators and kinase cross-talk” and “Cross-phosphorylation of bacterial serine/threonine and tyrosine protein kinases on key regulatory residues”, explore whether the connectivity at the protein-protein interaction level may point to a functional cross-phosphorylation among the four classes of Bacillus subtilis serine/threonine and tyrosine protein kinases.

The groups demonstrated that phosphorylation of one kinase by another has a functional/regulatory consequence, and explored the role of tyrosine and serine/threonine kinases and phosphatases in DNA metabolism, transcriptional control and cell division.

IntAct release R185

Following November's release, the IntAct database now contains 13,162 publications, 34,485 experiments and 473,426 binary interactions.

Complex Portal update

The Complex Portal describes 1024 stable biological complexes, providing a useful reference resource: http://www.ebi.ac.uk/intact/complex/

If your favourite complex is not represented, contact us at www.ebi.ac.uk/support/intact. With your help, we can include it rather quickly.

To learn more about the Complex Portal, have a look at the Nucleic Acids Research article, “The complex portal - an encyclopaedia of macromolecular complexes.”

Training

Registration is now open for the workshop, "In Silico Systems Biology," jointlly organised by EMBL-EBI and the Wellcome Trust and scheduled for 7-12 June 2015. It will be held on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in the UK. Find out more at http://advanced-courses-wellcome.msgfocus.com/q/16voPsIwR1D/wv

Thank you!

The entire team working to produce the IntAct data and database would like to wish all our users and data producers a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We look forward to working with you in 2015.
